Stephanie teaches students in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Her class recently learned about earthquakes.


For grades 3 and 4, the New Hampshire Frameworks requires, for example, under Processes and Rates of Change:
1. Describe how features on the Earth's surface are constantly changed by a combination of slow and rapid processes, which include weathering, erosion, deposition of sediment, drought, landslides, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.
Process Skills required include:
1. Observe and explore a variety of changes that occur on the Earth such as chemical & physical changes, landslides, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.
2. Participate in a variety of experiments and activities that demonstrate: chemical weathering, erosion, wind erosion, temperature changes, ice and plants.

In keeping with the New Hampshire Frameworks, Stephanie used a pan of prepared gelatin dessert, sugar cubes and plastic wrap, to demonstrate to her students, how the earth can move. Once everyone saw how an earthquake can happen, they were able to eat the jello for dessert.
